The Battle belongs to the Lord
By Eddie & Barbara Lofton

Isaiah 31:1-9

When mankind places their trust in their own devises, whether it is arms, intelligences, knowledge, power or position. That individual has the formula for failure, as recorded in our focus scripture.

The history of God’s people is evidences of this truth, but nowhere is it more evident than in Israel’s experience with Egypt.  Egypt represents everything pertaining to bondage; it was strong, powerful and had great influence throughout the world, as found in verse 1.

It is essential that our dependence by in God and on God alone. God cannot change His mind therefore, He presents a clear message and that message is found in verse 3, God is always totally in control. We are not to put our trust in any world power as Egypt demonstrated, with their might and power.

God has instructed His prophets and priests to give out a clear warning, in verse 4. The shepherd has only one job, to protect his sheep, even if in doing so his life could be at risk.  On many occasions there could be lions attacking the flock; the shepherd must defend his sheep. God protects us as the shepherd protects his sheep, He will fight for His own, delivering us providing freedom and the protection of the Heavenly Father.

Don’t be fool hearted and trust in the creation, when we can rest in the assurance of the Creator. This is reflected in verse 7, many trust in silver and gold, making idols of them and worshiping them. None of these objects can save us from impending disaster.

God can cause our enemies to have victory over us, if we choose to put our trust in the wrong people or objects of affection. However, if we trust in God, He can give us victory over all our enemies, this is revealed in verse 8 and 9.

God is in control and we will benefit from a total commitment to God and His Word. God’s desires for His children are peace and joy, however if we chose disobedience, God has to allow punishment. The scriptures are very clear, about this matter, and we owe it to ourselves to study the Word.

We love you all in Jesus Christ our Lord,

Eddie & Barbara Lofton
