NEW YEARS 2002
By Eddie & Barbara Lofton
Have you ever thought, what you would ask for if you could have anything you wanted? I have often been in the company of people who were telling what they would do if the won the lottery. At least to my self I have always been of the opinion that all the rules change once we actually reach our goal of which we have dreamed. We are so surprised to have achieved our goal; we forget all of the previous planning.
I our spiritual lives we are often confronted by similar conditions, we have certain ambitions and goal which we wish to reach. Unfortunately, our human desires seem to leads us in directions which are not part of God’s plan for our life.
When occasions like this arise, we can be greeted by disappointment, because we cannot see the complete picture of what God has for us. Much time we have to approach these times in our lives with complete trust in the Lord.
The scripture is filled with examples of God leading His people in way, which they didn’t understand. God has had a perfect plan in place even since the creation of the world; occasionally He pulls back the curtain of time and reveals a small image of His plan to us.
In order to operate within that plan we need to be students of the scripture, praying and maintaining regular communication with the Heavenly Father. Our relationship will determine how easily we allow God to work in and through us; it is hard to trust someone with whom we have no ongoing relationship.
This New Years we need to resolve to build a deeper relationship with God, in scripture reading and study, prayer, witnessing, and fellowship. The scripture tells us, we have already won, and it is up to us step forward and receives the fulfillment of God’s promises to His children. That begins when we accept Jesus Christ as our personal savior and make Him Lord of our lives.
As we look at the clean slate before us, let us resolve to serve Jesus Christ, with all of our heart, soul and mind. If we don’t make that commitment, we will get involved in the busy work and forget what is really important. The prince of this world is working hard to help us forget about our reason for being here in this world.
We love you all in Jesus Christ our Lord,
