For many 2001, may have been full of hardship, disappointments and discouragements. One thing is sure although there will always be memories, we will never live through those days again, they are gone forever.
However, on the other side, 2002 is a clean slate, which has not been used yet, for most nothing bad has happened during these past several hours of a new year. Therefore it is important to establish the path, which we will travel, set our priorities.
It is unfortunate for many, their lives will not change they will continue just as they did last year and the year before. Peter was aware of this fact as he wrote his letter, writing to stir up a pure mind of remembrance. He was calling upon the people to think, about what had been spoken by the prophets and Jesus Christ himself.
If we are to make a difference in this world in which we live, we must know what our position is in Jesus Christ. We need to have a continuing relationship with our heavenly father, without that we can become confounded to this worlds thinking.
Peter even in his day realized there would be those who would scoff at the promises of God, as recorded in His Word. We are living in days in which there are many who claim there is no God, and don’t what any relationship. Our universities have and are producing people who believe in nothing and their actions reveal, that is exactly what their lives demonstrate,
nothing, which has any eternal value.
Without God, and the values, which He has established, this live becomes empty and void. There are those educated minds that are living up to the passage found in verses 5-8, the sad part is they are leading a generation into darkness.
It had been hoped that modern communication would help to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ faster and more effectively to the masses. In many cases we can say it has reached more people that we have in any other generation. However, the ungodly have also used the same media to spread their disease, one which has inflected this generation with doubt, fear, disbelieve, mistrust and depression. They run after happiness only to get there and find disappointment and despair.
The answer is still in the Word of God; we have a great responsibility to spread the Good News to our generation, before time runs out.
Peter spent three years in very close relationship with Jesus; the scripture clearly determines the many occasions in Peter’s life where he totally displeased Jesus. We also will experience times during this year when we will totally miss the mark, however, our Christian growth will be determined by how we response to this call to total commitment.
Ask God to bring into your life someone who you will trust to direct you back to God when you miss the way. When we would prefer to stay in rebellion, we need someone who loves us enough to tell us we are out of fellowship. We must remain committed to fight the good fight if we are to win the victory, and receive the reward.
We love you all in Jesus Christ our Lord,
