Does God Still Perform Miracles?
By Eddie & Barbara Lofton

Acts 3: 1-11

As you search through the television channels with you remote control, don’t be surprised to happen on to a divine healing, miracle service. There are many who do their minister from tents, while they move to new locations through the country, some hold their services in large crowded auditoriums, and while other have television ministries with millions of supporters. There are churches that by they very name believe in divine healing, and others who, believe in it, but do not practice it.

As in our scripture passage there have been misunderstands and disagreements about divine healing for many years. It is fair to say all healing comes from God, because it is good and God desires good things for us. However, just for question sake, does Satan sometimes allow healing to take place in order to gain a position in a person’s life? Because a person is miraculously healed, does that guarantee the person will follow God and His leadership for their life? This question probably will never be answered completely here on this earth.

Peter and John were going about their business as followers of Jesus Christ, since He had died, been buried, rose from the grave, come back alive, appeared to His followers and was now in Heaven glorifying the Father. These two disciples who had spent three years with Jesus, now were on their way to the temple for prayer, and God had a plan, which included an exercise of their faith in Jesus Christ.

This was a special day for the lame man, because God was about to work a miracle, this man had been laid here day after day with no one even paying him any attention. This was his day, to receive his healing, and for Peter and John to share the grace of God with this man. It was a two way street, and that is necessary if God is to receive glory, Peter and John told the man they were not blessed with silver and gold, but had something even more valuable. These men had with them the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth and it was by this power he was to rise up and walk.

This name had never walked before in his life, the scripture doesn’t even tell us if he had the bones or other necessary physical abilities to walk. However, at Peter and John’s command he received their right hand and he immediately received strength. For the first time in his life he could enter the temple, a whole complete man, walking, leaping and praising the Lord.
As in our world today, there were people who doubted the facts, God had healed and restore this lame man; they were beholding the miracle in the front of their own eyes. A man, whom they had seen daily for many years, was now completely healed, at the command of Peter and John, whom they also knew.

Even now there are those who doubt the fact that God has the ability not only to restore our physical bodies to health, but even more important, He can spiritually restore our relation. It is necessary to give testimony to the healing of Jesus Christ in our body, soul and spirit, just as was done in verses 9-11. Not everyone is going to be a believer; in fact there will probably be more who will not believe. That does not change the facts, and should not keep us from sharing the story of what God has done through Jesus Christ.

We like Peter and John, first of all need to be aware of the fact, we may be drafted into service at anytime, or place, we need to be prepared to share the grace of God, daily!

We love you all in Jesus Christ our Lord,
Eddie & Barbara Lofton
